Hwange Safari Lodge manager came to the rescue of Hlanganani Gideon Dube (74) at 10pm on 5 May 2021, ending his 8 hour desperate search for help following a gruesome attack by an elephant, and got him admitted to hospital. Mr Dube was herding his cattle home, and suffered horrific injuries to his right leg. Hwange Rural District Council supported medical costs under its CAMPFIRE programme, but Mr Dube and his family will need additional assistance from well wishers in coping with the injuries.
