Campfire has developed tools to collect data mainly from demographics, revenue generated through trophy hunting and ecotourism as well as human and wildlife conflict incidents and dam- age at district and ward level, the Zimbabwe Campfire Association director, has said.

Lungile Sibanda said this whilst speaking at a 3 day data collection and standard- isation workshop that was held by Campfire Association, Resource Africa and Jamma International in Ha- rare attended by participants from six countries namely: Botswana, Ghana, Malawi, South Africa, Tanzania and Zimbabwe “The Campfire Association developed tools to collect data at ward and district level which have been used by Campfire districts to as far as 2016” said Sibanda “The tools mainly capture data from demographics, revenue generated through trophy hunting and ecotourism as well as human and wildlife conflict incidents at district and ward level.” However, these tools are not being used effectively and efficiently such data is not constant across all the districts.

The workshop seeks to standardise all the districts on the reporting tools to improve the quality of data collected and help improve the decision-making of communities and policymakers regarding wildlife economy and sustainability, she said.

The meeting heard that Resource Africa is working with monitoring and information officers of the six countries that are attending this workshop.

Since 2022 that’s when those gaps were noticed and it called for this workshop to be held to discuss modules to fit in the tool.

Also, the idea for having the workshop is to discuss what is it that could be included in the report, it was noted.
